Add User

Create a new user on a live LiteLLM proxy.

Setup

Ask for these if not already known:

LITELLM_BASE_URL  — e.g. https://my-proxy.example.com
LITELLM_API_KEY   — proxy admin key

API reference: https://litellm.vercel.app/docs/proxy/virtual_keys#creating-a-user

Ask the user

  1. Email (required)
  2. Role — one of: proxy_admin, proxy_admin_viewer, internal_user (default), internal_user_viewer
  3. Max budget (optional, e.g. 10.00)
  4. Allowed models (optional, e.g. gpt-4o, claude-3-5-sonnet)

Run

curl -s -X POST "$BASE/user/new" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "user_email": "<email>",
    "user_role": "<role>",
    "max_budget": <budget_or_null>,
    "models": [<models_or_empty>]
  }'

Output

Show the user:

  • user_id — they'll need this for future updates
  • key — the auto-generated API key for this user
  • user_role, max_budget

On error show detail and the likely fix.

Summary

This skill guides an agent to create a new user on a live LiteLLM proxy by collecting email, role, and optional budget/model parameters, then calling the POST /user/new endpoint via curl. The skill provides clear setup requirements (base URL and API key), a structured user input flow, a curl command template, and expected output fields.

Use Cases

  • Create new user accounts on LiteLLM proxy infrastructure
  • Set up proxy user roles with budget and model restrictions
  • Generate API keys for new proxy users
  • Configure access control for multi-tenant LiteLLM deployments
  • Batch onboard users to LiteLLM proxy with consistent settings

Quality Notes

  • Skill provides clear setup prerequisites (LITELLM_BASE_URL, LITELLM_API_KEY)
  • Role options are well-defined with defaults
  • curl command template is complete and well-formatted
  • Output expectations are clearly listed (user_id, key, role, budget)
  • Error handling guidance included ('show detail and likely fix')
  • Skill lacks input validation instructions — no guidance on sanitizing email, role, or budget inputs before JSON transmission
  • No error handling examples provided (e.g., auth failures, invalid roles, network timeouts)
  • Budget and models parameters shown as optional but JSON structure doesn't clarify null handling
  • No guidance on storing or securing the returned user_id and key
