Source And Citation Audit

Use this reference at depth levels 6-10 when sources, citations, claims, or references matter.

Source Quality

Use CRAAP/SIFT-style checks as heuristics:

• Currency: source date fits the claim or is supplemented by recent evidence.
• Relevance: source supports the exact claim being made.
• Authority: author, publisher, venue, and expertise are appropriate.
• Accuracy: claims match the source; methods and data are represented correctly.
• Purpose: bias, vendor interest, advocacy, or marketing role is visible.
• Trace: important claims are traced to the original context when possible.

Citation Symmetry

Check:

• Every in-text citation has a reference entry.
• Every reference entry is cited.
• Author names and years match between citations and references.
• Same-author same-year suffixes are consistent.
• DOI/URL/stable locator is present when required by the citation style or governing spec.

Source-To-Claim Trace

For high-rigor reviews, sample the highest-impact claims and verify:

• The claim appears in the cited source.
• The claim is not stronger than the source supports.
• Methodology verbs match the source type.
• Exact numbers, percentages, sample sizes, and dates match the source.
• Non-peer-reviewed sources are not treated as peer-reviewed evidence.

Report Limits

Do not claim DOI resolution, URL verification, author verification, or source-content verification unless actually performed. If browsing or source files were unavailable, state that limitation.
